Copenhagen historic grand prix
The story behind
The Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix (CHGP) is an annual historic motorsports event that takes place the first weekend in August at Bellahøj. The racetrack is 2.4 km long with six corners and a 700-meter straight.
The event attracts professional racing drivers such as Tom Kristensen and Jan Magnussen and combines racing with charity through Race for the Kingdom , which has raised over DKK 6.5 million for Rigshospitalet's Children and Youth Program. HRH Prince Joachim is the patron in 2025.
The story behind
The Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix is a historic motor racing event held in Copenhagen every year. The first race was held in 1996 under the name Copenhagen Classic Car Cup . The name stuck until 2003, when the event was renamed Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix (CHGP).
The same year, the event moved to Fælledparken, where it was held until 2012. It was after the 2012 race that the Nellemann Group, led by Jac Nellemann , took over the company behind the event. Since then, the CHGP has been held every year (with the exception of the Corona year 2020) on the first weekend in August. The course, which has been located at Bellahøj since 2013, is just over 2.4 km long and consists of, among other things, six bends and a 700-meter-long 'straight' (Bellahøjvej).
Over the years, professional racing drivers from Denmark and abroad have visited the race – both as competing drivers in the many different classes and as participants in our charity race, Race for the Kingdom . Among the well-known names are Le Mans king Tom Kristensen (CHGP ambassador) and Jan Magnussen (Race for the Kingdom ambassador). In addition, HRH Prince Joachim is the patron of the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix in 2024. Race for the Kingdom is CHGP's charity event. For one hour on Saturday and Sunday, all guests can buy themselves one of the coveted rides at Bellahøj Park.
All funds raised are donated in full to the Children and Youth Program at Rigshospitalet. Since 2010, Race for the Kingdom has collected more than DKK 6,500,000 for the program, which helps children and young people through difficult times.

Green initiatives
CHGP in the future
Recognized by FIA for environmental efforts
In 2022, Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix (CHGP) received the first star in the FIA's Environmental Accreditation Programme, which recognizes fundamental environmental practices.
In 2023, CHGP achieved the second of three possible stars, reflecting the organization's commitment to sustainability and reduced environmental impact.
Fossil-free fuel from 2025
Starting with CHGP 2025, all participating cars in the race will run on fossil-free fuel to significantly minimize our CO2 emissions. The goal is to set standards for sustainable events and inspire similar events to follow suit.
Focus on sustainable alternatives
Since 2023, CHGP has measured the organization's carbon emissions, increased the use of carbon-neutral fuel, and implemented food waste strategies, including the distribution of surplus food.
In 2024, additional initiatives, such as waste sorting on site, were introduced to promote sustainability.
Vision for a greener motorsport
CHGP's Green City is an area dedicated to the exhibition and communication of future green mobility technologies. Previously, students from DTU, SDU and AAU have presented electric racing cars they have built themselves.
In the future, Green City will serve as a platform for technologies in green transportation, carbon capture and storage, biofuel production and other sustainable solutions.
